The Shepard Schools Extended School Year Program (ESY) provides classified students an extension of their special education programming into the summer months so they do not regress and are able to successfully recoup academic and social-behavioral skills when they transition back to school in the fall.

Who It's For

Students in elementary, middle, and high school with behavioral and/or learning difficulties who have ESY included in their IEPs;
Students enrolled at Shepard during the regular school year, as well as students from other programs; and
Students who are preparing to move into vocational and college tracks.

How It Works:

Students who need to make up class credit, or who are at risk of regressing in the months prior to the start of the new school year, receive academic instruction based on core curriculum standards in math, science, language arts and humanities. Instruction in art, music, cooking, computers and photography is also offered, and ESY students have the opportunity to take part in educational field trips, as well as recreational activities like swimming and horseback riding.

Structured learning and transition skills instruction includes job sampling and coaching, college exploration visits, financial literacy lessons, creation and development of community service projects, and hands-on experience in culinary arts.

Shepard Schools' highly qualified, state certified teachers, social workers and school psychologists are trained in the Wolf Program©, an evidence-based social emotional learning program that utilizes social skills instruction, individual or group counseling, and a positive behavioral management point system.
